The therapists I work with are incredible. They are warm, collaborative, and are able to be both playful and empathetic. We support each other to better support our community!

Graduate level psychology trainees, master's level trainees and associates as well as newly licensed clinicians receive valuable training working with our diverse LGBTQIA+ and QTBIPOC clients.  Our year long program meets all Board of Behavioral Sciences & Board of Psychology licensing laws.  Clinicians in the training program are supervised by licensed clinicians.

The training program is a minimum 12 month commitment.  Student trainee, registered associates and licensed clinicians start in September.  Program applicant process starts in early February through early June.

Clinicians in training are required to be on-site for a minimum of 20 hours per week and
must be willing to complete

8-10 client hours between Monday and Friday each week, with one evening required.  During shelter in place, all former onsite requirements are met through online platforms.

What makes our program unique?

  • The Professional Development Group (PDG) provides clinicians in training with an opportunity to explore how societal systems, oppression and privilege (the macro) interact with our personal histories and identities (the micro) in ways that then inform our work as therapists.  Through this lens, group participants will look at their relationship to various aspects of our world including self, others, institutions, and systems.  The PDG format includes an hour of learning and an hour of group process and dyad work.  The group helps pre-licensed individuals expand their sense of themselves as therapists and integrate what they are learning in the Training Program.

  • Clinicians working at the Pacific Center for Human Growth participate in a weekly 2 hour didactic training which is tailored to enhance and deepen their clinical skills to better serve the community.  Because our clinical program is a hybrid of a community based mental clinic with an overlay of private practice sensibilities, the training program is designed to address the contemporary needs of the clients and the community we serve through a multi-dimensional lens.  The trainings offered include a variety of ideologies and orientations.  Some examples of the training topics include: Assessment and Diagnosis, Crisis Intervention, Working with HIV+ Clients, Polyamorous relationships, and SOGIE (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity/Expression).
